A CHILDREN'S play area on Launceston's Lanstephan Estate has become a 'dilapidated eyesore', say residents. They claim that failure to maintain the site is posing a danger to youngsters. One resident, Pat Ward, believes the area is in desperate need of refurbishment, and should not have been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. She said: "Residents of Lanstephan will doubtless be familiar with the dilapidated eyesore at the bottom of St Mary's Road which is currently masquerading as a children's playground. "This neglected, weed-strewn patch of cracked concrete reminds me of the bomb damaged area we used to play on as children when visiting my grandfather in Southampton — excusable in a post-war city, but not in Launceston in 2014. "Apparently, a plan for its long-term has been requested, although I do not know the timescale for its publication. In the meantime, it appears that the 'playground' is being allowed to decay even further. Its neglected appearance is not representative of the area."
