THE Bridge Mill at Bridgerule, near Holsworthy, has been awarded a plaque by the Mills section of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) in recognition of good practice in mill conservation and repair.
Sophie Martin of SPAB said: “Plaques are awarded to projects that accord with our philosophy of repair and demonstrate high standards of workmanship. The Bridge Mill is an exemplar of what can be achieved through dedication, inspiration and sensitivity, and presentation of this award raises awareness of what is possible.”
The Bridge Mill was nominated by millwright and mill historian, Martin Watts, who has ‘for many years watched the development of your mill into the success it is today under your careful stewardship’.
The plaque will be presented when the Bridge Mill opens its doors on Sunday, May 14 as part of National Mills Weekend.
Owner, Alan Beat, said: “We’ve been taking part in this event since 1997, and I’m delighted that this prestigious award helps to make our 20th anniversary a special occasion.”
