PLANS to ease some of the traffic at one of the pinch points in Launceston are still being looked at.
Launceston town councillor Paul O’Brien at the recent meeting brought up the previously discussed idea to remove the pavements on the road bridge over the River Kensey at Newport and install separate a footbridge for pedestrians.
He said to Liberal Democrat Launceston Central Cornwall Councillor Gemma Massey: “That seemed to get lost in various other grandiose schemes all of which were destined to fail because of the amount of money involved. Could you tell us where it’s got to?”
Cllr Massey said there were recent site meetings about it but that historical teams have raised concerns about touching the original part of the bridge.
She added: “It is very much being pushed. As it’s a small project it has unfortunately been the historical side of that bridge that has been the issue.
“We know it’s a quick, quite simple solution to start easing things in that area.”
