THE recently formed Friends of Holsworthy Library group, run by volunteers, has been showing their support for their local library — with more upcoming events planned.
They are made up of a small committee that was launched on April 1, and support the small library in Holsworthy.
So far they have held a coffee morning and a stall in the Memorial Hall to promote interest.
Chair of the Friends of Holsworthy Library, Mary Care, said: “We were very fortunate to be included on the Holsworthy Waitrose Green Disc Scheme, where three charities a month are highlighted by them, people put a green disc into a box of their choice and at the end of the month, those charities receive funding.

“We were given £310, which is a brilliant start and we are very grateful. Some of it has already been earmarked for the children’s event at the library, the ‘Big Reading Challenge’ — a children’s author is coming to share the day with the children in various activities and medals given to those who completed the challenge of reading six books during the summer holidays. “
“This event takes place in September, so we are pleased to be able to support our library in ways like this.”
Volunteers, who have a love of books and wanted to help show their support for the library, started the Friends group.
They are an independent group that’s main purpose is dedicated to the promotion and support of Holsworthy Library and the libraries services in general.
The library’s friends group’s remit is to: encourage increased public awareness of the brief for libraries on books and so much more; support staffing activities in the library; provide support with fund raising activities for items and facilities; represent library users by providing feedback on services; provide volunteer support when needed for Friends’ activities and other library events.
Holsworthy Library offers these vital services, which are aimed at different groups, including mothers and children, young people, older and vulnerable people.
