AN outline planning application has been received by Torridge District Council for 55 houses to be built at the old livestock market in Holsworthy.

The site was previously allocated as a retail development area in January 2015, after Tesco bought the land and received planning permission to build a supermarket at the former Kivells livestock market at Underlane.

However, in November 2014 Tesco withdrew plans to build a supermarket at the time saying they did not feel a store was ‘the most suitable means to serve the community’ — the site has been awaiting development ever since.

The latest proposal, put forward by applicant Mr Robin Furby alongside the agents Chris Dent Architects on Tuesdsay, November 15, is for the ‘demolition of existing cattlemarket buildings and replacement with up to 55 residential units and associated works’.

The period for observations ends on the December 27, 2016. Any comments on the plan can be submitted to Torridge’s planning department before this date.

All details of the application can be found on the Torridge District Council website. To submit a comment the public must contact Torridge District Council direct by email to [email protected] or by calling 01237 428711.
