WITH progress being made on the Ruby Way between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy, attention has turned to extending the cycle route between Holsworthy and Bude.

At a recent cross-border meeting, a new body, the Atlantic Ruby Partnership was formed with the aim of establishing the management of the trail, deciding who would be responsible for its maintenance and ensuring that the path on either side of the Devon/Cornwall border has the same specification.

John Allen, chairman of the Ruby Country Partnership, who attended the meeting, said the extension of the cycle way to Bude would offer local businesses lucrative opportunities.

Meanwhile work is almost complete on the bridleway from Beaworthy to Dreybury Lane, leading to Halwill Junction. The route is fully usable and will form part of the Pegasus Way, a long distance multi-use trail from Cookworthy Forest to Dartmoor, using the dismantled railway track and minor roads.

A website for the Pegasus Way will soon be set up on http://www.devon.gov.uk/prow">www.devon.gov.uk/prow and will include maps, routes and updates.
