PUBLIC notices cover a range of applications, ranging from licensing applications for liqueur or entertainment to planning applications, roadworks and other works. Their intention is to inform communities of the latest plans in their area and such applications are considered for approval or refusal by local authorities. Here are some of the latest applications submitted to Cornwall Council in North Cornwall and Torridge District Council in Torridge.
Footpath extinguished
PART of a public footpath in Tintagel no longer has a right of way after an order was made to extinguish its designation.
It concerns a portion of Footpath 15 in Tintagel at Trebarwith Strand. However, the council has confirmed that it has now executed the proposed order.
It stated: “The effect of the order as confirmed is to extinguish a length of Public Footpath Number 15 in Tintagel commencing at its junction with a part of Public Footpath 15 Tintagel to be retained 72 metres west of ‘The Port William’ at Ordnance Survey Grid Reference (OSGR) SX 04812/86356 then continuing in a west-south-westerly then south-westerly then southernly then south-south-westerly direction for 214 metres to where it terminates having no connection to any other recorded highway 240 metres south-west of ‘The Port William’ at OSGR SX 04702/86207.’
In documents as part of the process confirming the removal, Cornwall Council stated its reasons for doing so.
It said: “This extinguishment is necessary because it appears to the Order Making Authority that it is expedient that the path should be stopped up on the ground that it is not needed for public use. This is because the way has eroded to the extent that is has now foundered as a consequence of successive cliff falls and has therefore ceased to exist. The current line of the path shown on the definitive map and statement is not only physically inaccessible and unusable, but there is also no realistic prospect of a path being reinstated on or near to this route.”
