SINCE the Post published its article on the recent public exhibition for plans to create a new agri-business hub at Kennards House, concerns have been raised about how existing community organisations would be affected.
The Post has been made aware that both the South Petherwin Cricket Club and Launceston Show site would be relocated as part of the project, which hopes to see the introduction of a new agri-business hub on land at Kennards House.
The plans, for applicant Kivells Ltd, propose a development of an agri-business centre, agri-business employment units, agri-merchants, trunk road service area and petrol filling station, hotel and replacement cricket pitch and pavilion, with associated access, infrastructure, landscaping, drainage, service areas and parking.
The site would absorb that of the current grounds for the annual Launceston Show, held in the summer, with the committee now considering future sites.
In response to the concerns made about the future of the show, a show committee spokesperson said: “The show committee have been aware of the proposed development for a long period of time, having been advised by the land owner.
“Alternative sites are being considered, details of which will be announced after the show committee have made a decision.
“The 2020 show scheduled for July 30, will be a full program on the existing show field.”
The Post has approached Kivells for a statement, but none was received before we went to press.
The final decision on the application will be made by Cornwall Council’s planning committee.
