Wadebridge Methodist Church were delighted to hear that after nine months of protracted negotiations, planning permission has now been received to demolish the old redundant and derelict chapel in Trevanion Road (next to the cinema) and to rebuild a new chapel on the same site footprint and with the same profile with the aim to make it appear familiar but fresh and welcoming.

Norman Every, project co-ordinator, said: “The permission does come however with some astonishing conditions not least is the following: ‘The windows and doors to be incorporated onto the development shall match the existing windows . . . . . and be single glazed and constructed of wood’ . Quite a challenge in today’s world of sustainability and rising energy costs.”

Norman added: “The current chapel is the third to be built on this site, the first being in the 1830’s. It is not a listed building but happens to be in a conservation area. The church is looking forward to work commencing very soon as a new chapter of Methodism in Wadebridge begins.”
