TINTAGEL Castle is now closed for winter.
The English Heritage site closed its doors to the public on Monday (October 1) in order to allow a massive project to take place over the winter months, leading to its opening in spring 2019.
The next few weeks and months will see the construction of the much-needed, but controversial, Tintagel footbridge, which will ‘reconnect Tintagel’s divided landscape’ after natural chasm split the site in two.
The site currently has a whopping 148 steps for visitors to use in order to travel to and from the different parts of the site.
The footbridge has been designed by Ney and Partners Civil Engineers and William Matthews Associates. Following the castle’s closure, a cable crane will be used for contractors to lift equipment and start the huge project. The design is hoped to ultimately improve access for visitors.
Tintagel Castle will open again in spring 2019.
