CORNWALL Council planners have refused an application to construct a single-storey dwelling at Port Isaac, saying it would ‘seriously erode the special character and appearance of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ (AONB).

The application for construction of a dwelling on land to the south of Sivershell View, Port Isaac, was one of those discussed by Cornwall Council’s east sub area planning committee at its recent meeting in Bodmin on September 11.

According to the draft minutes, which will be ratified at the October meeting, the committee also refused plans to erect a dwelling on land south of Greenacres, Higher Downgate, Callington.

Outline consent for the siting of a new single dwelling in Widemouth Bay with some matters reserved was granted.

Concerns about the application were raised by electoral division member Nicky Chopak, before the majority of the committee voted to approve the plans. Cllr Jim Flashman, in proposing the application, said the development ‘would have some social and economic benefits’.

Also at Widemouth Bay, plans to demolish a bungalow, White Cottage, Marine Drive, and replace it with a two-storey dwelling with parking were refused.

A planning application to construct two dwellings at land south of Trehemborne Meadow, St Merryn, was also refused.

Two planning applications for the Camelford area — construction of a detached bungalow and car port/store on land west north west of The Gighouse, Valley Truckle, and improvements to vehicular access to relocate principal entrance at Juliots Well Holiday Park — were approved.

Approval was also granted by the committee for a new dwelling with garden, using existing vehicle access, at land south east of Landrends Cross, Launceston.
