Plaid Cymru Assembly Member Simon Thomas has been chosen by local party members to be their candidate for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire in the forthcoming Welsh General Election.

Mid and West AM Simon Thomas said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be selected by local party members. This constituency after Llanelli is the most winnable for the Party of Wales. If we are serious about forming the next Welsh Government we must win here.

"Local people tell me it is a straight fight between Conservatives and Plaid Cymru for this highly marginal seat.

"My team is working on a number of campaigns to keep A&E in Withybush Hospital, fighting to keep the police helicopter base in Carmarthenshire, better transport links and boost the economy by cutting VAT for tourism businesses."

The decision by party activists is subject to approval by the National Executive Committee of the Party of Wales.
