LAST Saturday Launceston swim club entered the Cornwall County A.S.A Junior Inter-Club Competition in the First Division, after being promoted from the Second group last year.
Six of the top Cornwall clubs participated in 48 swimming events, including individual races as well as age group relays, at Bodmin Dragons Leisure Centre. Each race scored the Club points depending on their placing, with the two clubs scoring the least points overall being relegated to the Second Division.
Twenty four Launceston members swam tremendously well, achieving 34 personal best times with a number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. The contest became extremely exciting when after being placed 5th after the first 20 races the team gradually fought back, pulling out all the stops to move into 4th position and thereby to remain in the top group next year. This was such a fabulous achievement by the squad, particularly as there were some debut performances from some of the younger members.
The final results were 1st Newquay, 2nd Carn Brae, 3rd Truro City, 4th Launceston, 5th Penzance and last place Wadebridge.
