REFERENCE the Poundstock School photograph in 'Pictures from Times Past' in the 'Post' on March 19. Occasionally, I receive news from relatives in the Bude and Poundstock area who consider I would find certain items interesting.

As I live in the Pacific North West of the USA there is a considerable time lag between when you publish the items and when I get to read them.

My comments are as follows: according to the Poundstock School Register, Mary Harris (nee Mary Louise Stuttaford) was admitted to the school in 1931. She is to be commended for being able to name all those in picture (except two), after more than over 70 years. A cousin of mine, Joyce Greenwood, is at her side, also admitted in 1931.

The unknown boy at the left end of the third row was Gerald Yeo, admitted in 1927. Looking through the admission dates there is a wide range of ages of those in the picture.

Alfred Gliddon, the smiling boy second from the right in the back row of the picture, was admitted to the school in 1929. A tragic entry in the remarks column of the register records that he was killed during the landing of the Allies in Normandy in 1944.
