CORNWALL Councillor for Bude, Peter La Broy, has urged dog owners to pick up after their pets.

The Cornwall Councillor met with Bude Rubbish Action Group founder, Paul Crum, on Sunday, February 16 where they were less than impressed to find land at Crooklets beach covered in dog poo.

Cllr La Broy recently visited the beach with the Environment Agency to review the wave action against the cliffs and the accumulation of stones on the beach, but another thing was made clear to him — just how much dog poo was lying around on the beach.

During the meet-up with Paul of Bude Rubbish Action Group, who, with his wife Laila, runs the group and encourages local people to keep Bude clean and tidy with regular litter picks, the pair got to work and began the unpleasant task of picking up the poo to dispose of it properly — in the dog waste bin just yards away.

Cllr La Broy said: “If you own a dog, it’s only fair you take responsibility for that. This is one of the most beautiful corners of the world and to have dog poo right here in this zone is bad news — it’s not good.

“I think it may be possible that in the early morning, late evening, perhaps when it’s dark, dog owners let their dogs run around the corner, they come up and they perhaps don’t realise that they’re doing their business. But please, if you have a dog, be aware of where it is, be aware of what it’s doing and just don’t let it foul on our environment because this is a cracking place to live, we all want to take care of it and it does look good.”
