Over the past three and a half weeks, Holsworthy Chamber of Trade has received a huge response from the general public, shoppers and local businesses in Holsworthy town, over the issue of a possible pay and display machine to be put in the Square to be placed there by Devon County Council. Currently, parking in the Square is free. When the Chamber of Trade saw the article about the parking in the 'Post', a petition was handed out to around ten business in the Square. The petition was signed by over 1,600 people with many adding comments. Beccy Johns (chair of Chamber of Trade) said: "Businesses were happy to take the petitions as they feel strongly about the issue. It won't do the town any good, many are strongly against it and for businesses and shops it would be a nightmare." The petition will be handed over to the county council next week.
