PETER Rowe from the Lions Club of Launceston was endorsed as the district governor for the Lions Clubs of the South West, covering Cornwall, Devon and most of Somerset, for the next Lion’s fiscal year, which runs from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.
Peter will take the oath as an officer of the Association of Lions Clubs International at the international convention in Las Vegas on July 3.
At the recent Lions District Convention, held at Croyde Bay Holiday Village, the official notification of his successful election was met by a roar from the floor. He will have the responsibility for leading and guiding the Lions in this district.
Peter says that he is looking forward to being able to listen to all new ideas, concerns and initiatives to take Lions forward to meet the demands of the ever-changing problems of the local area, as well as those affecting everyone across the world, and helping to implement these changes and ideas.
Lions Club International is the largest voluntary humanitarian service organisation in the world. The aims of its members are to help those less fortunate than themselves. This is achieved by raising funds to assist deserving causes, or by giving of their time to help.
Internationally, many people have been helped either by assistance in the aftermath of a disaster, or with long-term projects to repair devastated infrastructure.
All donations to these projects are given to local Lions to administer, so that there is no administration costs involved. This means that every penny raised from the general public goes towards projects, whether they be in the local, national or international community.
Many organisations and individuals in the local community have been helped by the Lions Club of Launceston, which is where the bulk of the money raised goes.
At the same time, Lions have a great social life, and enjoy wonderful fun, fellowship and friendship with Lions from other clubs.
