POLICE, firefighters and elves shared an exercise bike at a Callington supermarket to cycle 244 miles and raise £640 for charity.

The Every Little Elf event was part of a two-day nationwide challenge run by Tesco to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.

Community volunteers, along with staff from the Callington store dressed as Santa’s helpers, took turns on a cycle loaned by All Being Well, a Pensilva gym that helps people with health problems.

Joe Bicarregui, a trustee of All Being Well, said: “As a small local gym, it was an honour for us to be asked to participate again in Tesco’s Christmas fundraiser. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, meeting the Tesco staff and customers and raising money for two health charities.”

Among those pedalling away were firefighters from Callington fire station and PCSOs Sarah Ross and Jo Addems.

Store manager Martin Hawkins said: “We are very grateful to have had the support as always of our customers and, thanks to their generosity, we raised £640 for our two charities.

“We would also like to thank All Being Well for once again lending us their equipment. Without them, this wouldn’t have happened.”
