A PLANNING application for the proposed renovation and extensions to the pavilion in Stanhope Park, Holsworthy has been submitted.
The application is currently under consideration by Torridge District Council.
The current building is in a semi-derelict state but is still used by a number of local clubs and community groups.
The proposed site will include the renovation and extensions of Stanhope Park’s pavilion, changing rooms, kitchen facilities, ablutions and an ancillary storage building.
As part of the planning permission for housing development within the old showground site — currently under development by Redrow — a new sports pitch will be provided on the north side of the park.
As part of a section 106 agreement a contribution to the new changing rooms for the existing and proposed park pitches were secured.
As a result, alongside Holsworthy Town Council, a plan to develop and extend the existing pavilion has been drawn up in order to provide a sports and recreational hub with faculties aimed at Holsworthy Cricket and Youth Football clubs, Holsworthy Peloton Cycling Club, Holsworthy Walk and Talk and overflow facilities for the town’s senior football club.
The Post last week reported on the success of the pavilion project’s ‘crowdfunder’ initiative.
Holsworthy Cricket and Youth Football clubs, along with the help of Lyndon Piper, of Piper Architects, have been attempting to secure the funding necessary to complete the designs drawn up in this planning application.
Applications to the FA and ECB will attempt to secure the remaining funding necessary for this project but will be reliant on the approval of the planning application.
