THE Holsworthy Area Sports Pavilion (HASP) has applied to Torridge District Council for a ‘Club Premises Licence’ for the sale of alcohol.
HASP approached the town council to get their views on the application.
Town clerk Vanessa Saunders said: “HASP have kindly got in touch with us — even though they don’t have to — to say they have applied to Torridge District Council for a permit to sell alcohol at the pavilion in Stanhope Park from 11am to midnight, Monday to Sunday.”
Mayor Jon Hutchings said it was kind of HASP to have consulted the town council but he felt the same time restrictions should be applied to HASP that are in place for the bowling club, who currently have a licence to sell alcohol up until 11.30pm.
Cllr Hutchings said: “We should restrict them to the same hours as the bowling club — I think it is only fair that they are both the same.”
Cllr Ken Watson asked that as the council weren’t actually the deciding body how would they enforce this change: “Could we make this a comment on the application to Torridge District Council?”
Mrs Saunders said she would contact Torridge and put forward the council’s suggestion of a time restriction on the sale of alcohol at the pavilion from 11am to 11.30pm.
