TREBARWITH Strand Surf Shop owner, Shaun Boundy, wants Cornwall Council to do their bit to help ease traffic problems in the village.
Boundy posted evidence of a vehicle parking as far down towards the beach as possible, next to the Tintagel Surf Life Saving Club pavilion, which blocked private parking for business owners and where space is reserved for access to emergency services.
Explaining his thoughts on it, Shaun said: “The council (Cornwall Council) must do something and put new yellow lines there.
“There are ten private parking spaces which we couldn’t access and its the main entrance to the beach and where the emergency services go to help.
“Also where you come into Trebarwith, everyone just parks anywhere and it’s got to change. The parking restrictions from the council don’t start until May 1 and that works pretty well, but until then you get people blocking the entrance, it’s just ridiculous.
“Where it narrows as you come down, people park there and you can’t get through. If the surf shop, surf cottage or cafe caught fire they would all go up in flames as the fire engine wouldn’t be able to get through, there’s no way it would.”
Schools broke up for the Easter break on Friday and with spring upon us, Shaun and the other business in Trebarwith are getting ready for the start of another hectic summer, and he wants traffic wardens to be put in place.
He said: “There’s a lack of traffic wardens and the council are screwing businesses over. If they had a traffic warden and paid him £300 to £400 a week then he can earn his keep and help the experience for everyone.
“These are my thoughts only but it’s such a problem. Often there are cars parked right up to the door. I can’t even get in and out on some mornings.”
In response, Cornwall Council said: “We encourage everyone to think before they park and make sure there is access for emergency vehicles. The area referred to is part of the restricted parking zone which will be enforced by our civil enforcement officers from May 1.
“If a vehicle is causing a safety issue or blocking the road or pavement in the meantime, the police should be informed.”
