CORNWALL Hospice Care recently designated a weekend as the ‘Great Cornish Cake Bake Big Weekend’, and residents of Delabole took part from May 5 to 7.
At Delabole Methodist Church, they had sadly lost a member, Mrs Mary Scarrett, whose last days were spent in the hospice.
The church thought it would be a good idea to celebrate her memory by participating in this cake bake weekend by running a coffee and cake morning, with, of course, a cake stall and a raffle.
The local shops and hostelries gladly donated goods for the raffle, and local members of the church and friends kindly supplied the church with cakes.
Arriving at the church just after the opening time of 10am, the Sunday School was ‘humming with people’, the table for coffee and cake was groaning, and the lady running the cake stall had hardly any room left for more.
People kept coming all morning, and as fast as cakes disappeared off the cake stall, others arrived.
It truly was a good morning in memory of a lady who would have been ‘in the thick’ of a morning like this. A memorable sum was raised of £652 for Cornwall Hospice Care.
