ALMOST a hundred people attended the parish lunch in Bridegrule’s village hall last Sunday, and it proved to be a friendly, companionable and very enjoyable afternoon.
Organised by Sheila Cholwill and members of the Methodist chapel, almost all of the three-course meal was donated by kind people in the village.
There was a choice of starter, followed by sliced meat with new potatoes and a huge variety of salad dishes. The table loaded with the puddings was just as mouth-wateringly amazing, and there was definitely plenty of it.
Many thanks go to Sheila and to everyone who set out the tables and chairs with pretty flower arrangements and place-names, making the hall look so welcoming. Thanks also to everyone who supplied food and helped wait at tables, and of course the people who washed up — that plus the clearing up seemed to take forever.
Best of all was the happy atmosphere and the friendly chatter that filled the hall. People just didn’t seem to want to leave — and that sums up Bridgerule. The lunch made £1,075 for the Methodist chapel funds.
Most of these events are thanks to Sheila Cholwill, who is chief organiser.
The village extended its thanks to her for revel week, various concerts, chapel events, being village hall treasurer, member of the parish council, organising coffee club and various coach trips and being editor of the superb BUZZ magazine.
