AFTER some ten months since the tragic death of Miss Joan Rendell, MBE, as the result of a fire at her home, Tremarsh, Werrington, on May 4, 2010, the funeral and service of thanksgiving for her life took place at St Martin of Tours Church, Werrington last Tuesday, as briefly reported last week. Miss Rendell, an authority on numerous subjects, mainly to do with Cornwall, was well known as a writer and collector who had a vast knowledge of her home county for she was a woman proud of her Cornish roots.
The service was conducted by Canon Geoffrey Pengelly assisted by the vicar of Werrington, Rev Kenneth Wakefield. As the parish priest, Rev Wakefield, who welcomed the large congregation, said "this long awaited day had now come."
