THE Hallworthy Market Chaplaincy team, the Wilsey Down Hotel and Kivells arranged a harvest celebration on the evening of Friday, October 16, which in total raised £2,009 for the Heartswell charity at Plymouth.
The charity provides an accommodation lodge for the relatives of those receiving treatment at the Plymouth hospitals as well as equipment for the benefit of heart patients.
The evening commenced with a Harvest Songs of Praise in the dairy cattle ring at the market led by Rev Bryan Ede. A lesson was read by Rev Richard Ward-Smith, and prayers were led by Rev Michael Parsons and Mr Brian Parkman. Mrs Sue Ede shared with her husband in a pointed but humorous dialogue and the singing was led by the St Gennys Silver Band.
Those present were welcomed by Mr James Morrish, representing Kivells, who generously provided refreshments.
June Brendon and her staff at the Wilsey Down Hotel in Hallworthy organised a raffle and an auction of produce. The sale was preceded by some introductory thoughts about harvest from Mr Michael Hicks, and a talk about the charity by the joint secretaries of the Camelford branch of the Heartswell charity, Mrs Margaret Bosley and Mrs Joyce Brown.
The Heartswell committee were overjoyed by the amount raised and wished to thank everyone who was involved.
