PEOPLE gathered from a large area at Hallworthy Market on Friday evening to share in a Harvest Songs of Praise in the Fatstock Ring of the market.

Those present were welcomed by Mr James Morrish on behalf of the auctioneers, Kivells Ltd, and shared in singing familiar harvest hymns led by the St Gennys Silver Band.

The Songs of Praise were led by the market chaplains, Rev Bryan Ede, Rev Michael Parsons and Mr Brian Parkman. A lesson was read by local farmers, Mr John Uglow and Mr Derek Parsons, and Mrs Joyce Brown joined Rev Bryan Ede in the telling of a harvest story.

Refreshments were shared afterwards in the Wilsey Down Hotel, and the evening concluded with a harvest auction, organised by landlady Mrs Jane Brendon, at which the auctioneers were Mr James Morrish and Mr Kelvin Heard. The auction was preceded by some appropriate comments from Mr Philip Bloye.

The proceeds from the collection at the songs of praise and the auction amounted to £1,660 for the oncology unit at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.
