THE team behind the ReFILL Shop in Bude held a coffee and cake fundraising morning at the Butter Bun recently, in an effort to raise further monies towards their exciting project.

Sarah, owner of cafe Butter Bun on Belle Vue in Bude, kindly offered the ReFILL Shop team a pop-up coffee and cake morning on Sunday, January 13. The volunteer team at ReFILL Shop baked up a storm, along with Ali from Simply Cook Simply coordinating, and with vegan goodies donated by Stef at Get Your Veg On, as well as help from the four-year-old ‘tombola king’ Isaac, altogether raising a whopping £440 for the crowdfunder towards a new shop offering shoppers the chance to be sustainable.

The ReFILL Shop will allow customers to fill jars, tubs and bags with plastic and package-free products, in an aim to reduce plastic consumption, which can take hundreds of years to break down, and therefore causes detrimental harm to the environment. Items might include pasta, grains, oats, rice, and even stretch to toiletry and cleaning products, all available to take away in containers from home, or in jars that can be bought from the shop.

Six more supporters kindly pledged hoppers at £100 each on the day, with the total raised smashing the £1,000 mark. This is an incredible achievement for a few hours nattering over cake and coffee on a chilly Sunday in January. A spokesperson from the ReFILL Shop team said: “It’s showing the best of our community — turning out and supporting a truly community venture.”

The ReFILL Shop’s next fundraiser is a silent disco on January 25 at Rosie’s Cafe. Tickets are £10 each and available at Rosie’s.
