RESIDENTS turned out in force to say 'no' at Week St Mary last Thursday, as they demonstrated their opposition to what could be Cornwall's largest energy park.

A consultation event was held in the village hall by wind and solar energy developer Good Energy for its energy park proposal.

The 47 megawatt energy farm involves six farms and would consist of 14 wind turbines measuring 125 metres high and 75 acres of solar panels, which could supply power to 20,000 homes.

There has been some support, but primarily objection to the development. Good Energy Ltd has pledged around £79,000 a year to go into community projects, and has also promised a local tariff, possibly saving residents within the immediate area around 20 per cent off their standard energy bill.

But not everyone is convinced.
