THE Luckett Family from Hartland held their third free heart screening at Petroc College in Barnstaple recently. This was done in memory of their son Martyn, who died suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition — myocarditis. Since then they have raised over £30,000 doing work for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). They have already held two at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude, so it was suggested that they move to the Barnstaple area, a move they made thanks to an invite from Petroc College. With the help of staff and students from the health and social care department — too many to mention — they had a successful weekend, with a full house both days, screening over 180 people. There were quite a few issues identified — some just as a precaution and others would be referred further.
