A YOUNG woman from Holsworthy was one of a group of people whose achievements were celebrated in this year's STAR Care Leavers Awards.
The awards were launched last year by Cornwall Council and Action for Children to highlight the achievements of the county's 16-plus children in care and care leavers.
Research shows that children in care and care leavers often face additional challenges in their lives, with increased numbers experiencing problems with homelessness; teenage pregnancy; anti-social behaviour and mental health. Cornwall's 16 + team works in partnership with Action for Children to support to Children in Care and Care Leavers from the age 16 until 21, or beyond if they continue in further or higher education.
Under the STAR scheme, which was developed in partnership with representatives of children in care and care leavers, young people can be nominated for awards in six categories.
