ON Saturday the Magpies travelled to Liskeard who are top of the league and in fine form so on paper the odds were stacked against us, writes Barry Parrish.
The first 45 minutes was very competitive with the Magpies riding their luck on three or four occasions but fine defending and some great saves from Ryan Walter enabled us to go in at half time 0-0.
No doubt Liskeard would have thought they deserved to be in front but you have to put your chances away. At half time Merv Palmer appeared!
The second half started very much like the first, end to end but a sweeping move after 55 minutes saw Ryan Lee's shot hit the post and the ball fell into the path of Scott Wilson who coolly slotted the ball home from 20 yards.
This was now game on and Liskeard threw everything at us but we were well organised, kept our shape and discipline which made us hard to break down. When they did get behind us Ryan Walter was in fine form and showed what a great prospect he is .
With 20 minutes remaining the Magpies made two substitutions, Kenny Hale for Scott Wilson and Ian Rowe for Syd Badham. Ian certainly had a steading influence and you could see us closing the game at 1-0.
However, this young team had other ideas with their pace up front a constant threat and it finally paid off with Kenny Hale scoring a great goal in the 'added time' to secure the win.
This was a great team performance and there were also some great individual performances.
If you had to pick a man of the match for Holsworthy I would say Lee Clarke had ann outstanding game and all in front of the first team management, this was a cracking game to watch well done lads keep it up.
