THERE was disappointment and outrage when the public were bluntly informed earlier today that Launceston Community Hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) was to close ‘temporarily’ effective immediately until October 1.

Other services at the hospital are to remain open.

Following concerns raised by the public, Launceston South Cornwall Councillor John Conway and MP for North Cornwall Scott Mann NHS Kernow issued a statement.

In it they say: “We recognise we should have done more to share this decision with the local community and apologise for our lack of communication.

“The decision to proceed with the temporary closure was made by a group of joint health and social care leaders who have been meeting regularly to manage the demand for these services.

“The temporary closure came into effect on Sunday 25 July to allow staff to be relocated to the minor injury unit in Liskeard.”
