A GROUP of volunteers took part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch in Enfield Park, Camelford on Saturday.
Organised by Kirsty Ferguson, the watch was part of a two-day event and was well supported, with 14 volunteers taking part.
Mayor of Camelford Cllr Rob Rotchell took part, as well as town councillors Louise Dean and Clare Hewlett.
Twenty-two species of bird were spotted including Great Tit, Robin, Long-tailed Tit, Wood Pigeon, Magpie, Starling, Dunnock, Blackbird, Collared Dove, Coal Tit, Jackdaws, Siskin, Gold Crest, Buzzard, Herring Gull, Common Crow and Dipper.
The group, under the guide of resident bird expert Andy Bond, also spotted squirrels, frogs, frog spawn, a deer track, daffodils and snowdrops ready to burst into flower on their walk around the park.
Cllr Dean said: “There’s such a lot of wildlife around us and sometimes we don’t notice what is under our very noses.”
Kirsty said she was delighted with how the event went, and it is hoped another will be organised later in the year.
She said: “A great time was had by all. Thanks to Andy for being our guide.”
The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch aimed to bring people closer to nature, by asking them to spent an hour counting the birds in their gardens, as well as making a record of other wildlife they spotted throughout the year, to help provide a vital snapshot of UK nature.
