WHILE Camelford prepares for its first Gorsedd at the beginning of September, the 'Post's' Community News Editor, Bill Roberts is looking forward to attending his ninth since he was made a Cornish Bard.
We are very proud at the 'Post' to have our own Bard, and below, Bill recalls some Gorsedd memories.
"It was either late January or the beginning of February 2004, when I received through the post an envelope to say that I was invited to be a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedd and that the ceremony would take place on the Piazza in Truro on the first Saturday in September — the day fixed annually for the ceremony.
Robing would take place in the Methodist Church in Truro. I also had to fill a form in with my measurements for my robes and the head-dress.
The other thing was that I was to mention this to no one. But this I actually did — one was to the person who was to measure me for the robe and the other was to a very good friend, who was extremely ill with terminal cancer and who would not be here in the September, for it was something she always wanted for me."
