CAMELFORD Fun Week has proved to be a great success, with people coming from all over to take part in the fun and exciting events.

The Conservation Day was a great success, and the family bingo raised an astonishing £428, which was then shared out to the events team and the Camelford Brownies, which they will put towards funding a trip to London.

The Mayor’s Afternoon Tea saw approximately 50 senior citizens tucking into delicious sandwiches and scones with jam and cream.

The community spirit at Music in the Park was evident, with around 500 people packing in to the fun week finale.

There was a variety of great performances, but the Boscastle Buoys and Josh Curnow’s appearance proving to be sensational.

The Boscastle Buoys raised £340 for Cornwall Hospice Care.

The Buoys will be putting the £340 raised to their overall fundraising collection, and will later be presenting a cheque for £4,000 to Cornwall Hospice Care at the Royal Cornwall Show on Friday, June 10 during their session at the Radio Cornwall tent. This will bring their total to £22,000.

During Josh Curnow’s performance, the event organisers went around with a fundraising bucket and raised £200 to put towards future events for the town.

Cllr Kirsty Ferguson, chairman of the Camelford Events Working Group, described Josh as ‘a gentleman’, who took selfies and signed autographs for the crowds.

She said: “The fun week exceeded our expectations, it went very well and the weather was great. During Music in the Park, we saw, at one point, around 500 people in the park, and it was a fun, lively and trouble free day. There were lots of people from Camelford that came along, and there were also a lot of faces we didn’t know, so that was good too.

“The local businesses also did very well from the week — the takeaways and Camelford’s Spar shop were all very busy, so that’s a bonus too.

“As chairman of events, I can’t tell you how nice it feels to have the support of the town behind you when trying to pull off a week of events for all.”

With the amount of success this year’s Fun Week has had, Cllr Ferguson is positive about holding another week like this next year.

She added: “One thing I would say is that we are always willing to have more hands, as it gets very busy. This year, there was only three of us that organised the events, and I had to attend every event throughout the week, so it would be great if more people would volunteer for next year.

“We have taken little steps, learnt some lessons and will be back next year for sure.”
