DETAILED plans will be drawn up after the Bude Friends of the Earth (BFOE) crowdfunder page raised £1,760 towards the new community orchard in the town.
The initial target was £1,100, however, such has been the support of the community, they managed to raise an extra £660.
Group treasurer, Simon Browning, said: “Although we don’t get the money from the crowdfunder for another couple of weeks, I need to finalise the detailed designs of exactly where the trees will be planted and so on.
“Before the application goes up online, crowdfunder make you do stretch targets where you have to say what you’ll do with any extra money you raise. We’re going to get an event shelter which we can use in January and February if the weather’s poor when we’re planting the trees and it’ll also be good in the summer when we host events and also to help keep the sun off.
“We also thought about a driftwood bench but we’re going to wait on that until we know exactly how the community orchard is shaping up and whether it’s well received once it’s up and running.
“However we’re looking into getting an apple and juicing press. Although we won’t be able to use any apples from the orchard for a while yet, we can hold juicing events where people can bring along their own apples and press them.”
