THE decision by developers Community Windpower to withdraw its application for a wind farm at Davidstow has been hailed as 'excellent news' by delighted opponents.
The company said it was abandoning the proposals in view of recent Government reform on green energy.
But Cornwall Councillor for Camelford Rob Rotchell said: "A letter has been received from Community Windpower that states due to the high amount of requests for further information, and the costs involved to get this additional information, the company has withdrawn its application for the wind farm at Davidstow.
"This is great news, I am very pleased indeed. As a Cornwall Councillor and as a town councillor I have objected to this application from the beginning; it is too big, in the wrong place and inappropriate.
"However, this doesn't mean they will not come back again with a different application."
Residents in the Davidstow and Camelford area have been campaigning against the wind farm ever since its first application more than four years ago.
The first application, for 20 126-metre turbines on land at Davidstow Woods and adjacent fields, was refused by Cornwall Council in 2011.
Community Windpower appealed the decision, but had to withdraw when external factors meant it could not prepare in time for the enquiry.
The company resubmitted the application twice more at the same site; the final application was last April for 16 wind turbines at a maximum of 130 metres (to tip), together with associated infrastructure.
