THE Bridgerule Village Hall was recently the venue for a special ‘Open Day’ on Saturday, April 8, giving people the chance to come and see the recent improvements.

The back kitchen has been completely refurbished with new flooring and at the same time the main hall floor was also renewed — both looking incredibly smart.

At the same time the committee organised a ‘History Day’ with several folders showing photographs of old Bridgerule, its people and events etcetera.

There was an invitation to have a go at table tennis, which is just one of the many groups that now use the hall. There was also a display of photographs showing the Dog Obedience Group and information about how to join the class.

In the small meeting room, a television was set up with an all-day display of Angela Brock’s amazing recordings of village events both past and present — it was so popular people said they ‘didn’t want it to end’.

This event was also giving the first chance to see the beautiful and very clever cross-stitch of Bridgerule, showing its important buildings and including some of the events held in the village.

Mrs Joan Marshall, who is a member of the Bridgerule’s ‘Knit and Natter Group’, made the cross-stitch and it can now be seen framed in the entrance lobby of the village hall.

Outdoors to add interest to the history day there were four vintage cars parked and five gleaming tractors.

Refreshments were served all day including bacon butties and a lot of homemade cake and biscuits.

A spokesperson said: “The day was a great success and we wish to thank those who came and the many who helped.”
