THE Dunheved Residents' Association (DRA) have been trying to buy Hendra House, Launceston, in hopes of creating a community centre since Cornwall Council and the Courts of Justice jointly put the 1875 building on the property market earlier this year.
"It started out as a way to preserve the building, and stop another development site being built on Dunheved Road," said Simon Dart, of the DRA. "A community centre was a great way to do this."
The group had originally applied for the building to be listed, but was told that Hendra House had "no discernible aspects' and was refused.
The residents' association has accepted that the task of preserving this building is too great, and so have begun a steering group with the help of Cornwall Council to attempt to create a feasible and sustainable business plan.
