BUDE Pilot Gig club is going from strength strength.

For the first time ever last year at the Scillies Championships the ladies were able to race two crews and this looks to be achieved by the men next year.

To celebrate the hard work put in by members a series of awards have been presented. In the senior section the most improved rowers went to Lucy Williams and Colin Girder, both new to the sport.

Lucy’s rowing improved so much over the summer months, she’s pushing hard for a place in the a crew, and Colin started rowing to keep up with his children who also row and got bitten by the ‘rowing bug’.

The best rower trophies went to Kerry Shubert and Neil Jackman. Kerry has proved herself a great rower, being able to row in all seats in the boat, be it on bow or stroke side, and is happy to stroke when required.

Neil started rowing in the depths of winter despite the freezing cold and has shown his dedication to the sport, which has been illustrated in his rowing ability.

The junior section awards went to William Girdler for his courage in the boat, Rohan William-Peck as the most improved rower (if only the club could stop him waving while he is rowing!),

Marissa Hancock as the most promising newcomer, Syrah Quick for the most committed rower, Eve Langman as member of the year due to her calming and supportive attitude to the other rowers, Chay Moran as rower of the year for all the effort he puts into team and his brother Jacca Moran with the team spirit award.

Club person of the year went to James Neep for all his hard work in building up the men’s crews so that the club is now able to field several crews on race day.

James on receipt of the trophy acknowledged the help he had had from Jody Dennett in the task and said he was looking forward to another great year in 2019.
