One of the world’s first-ever Harry Potter books is expected to sell for £20,000 - with a typo in J.K. Rowling’s name on the title page.
The uncorrected proof copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was priced at £4.50 when published in 1997.
It comes with a misspelling of author J.K. Rowling’s name, which is given as J.A. Rowling on the title page.
The 224-page book, which is being auctioned this week, is simply presented in white with a horizontal yellow strip.
It is one of 200 published proof copies of the world’s first-ever Harry Potter book.
On the back, the text reads: “This is an uncorrected proof copy and is not for sale.
“It should not be quoted without comparison to the finally revised text.
“It does not reflect the quality, page size or thickness of the finished text.”
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published in 1997 and was J.K. Rowling’s debut novel.
It follows 11-year-old wizard Harry Potter who attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
The book will be auctioned with a guide price of £10,000-20,000 at Laidlaw Auctioneers in Carlisle.
