Camelford man, Paul Rosen, offered a "once in a lifetime opportunity" to his daughter, 15-year-old Holly Crone, last Sunday as she took to the skies with Charlie Appleton of Cornish Aviation at Davidstow Airfield.
Paul won the chance to fly with Charlie when he won this year's raffle prize at the annual War Machines Weekend, held at Davidstow in July, but instead decided to let Sir James Smith's School pupil Holly go ahead as a reward for her recent exam successes. Holly and Charlie took off from Davidstow Airfield watched by mum Jill and younger sister Cara, Paul's brother Leon and staff from the Cornwall at War Museum — including the museum's co-owner Steve Perry.
They flew over RNAS Treligga, RNAS Crugmere, RAF St Eval, Trebelzue and St Mawgan, RNAS Mullion and RNAS St Merryn as part of Charlie's 'Historic Airfields Tour'. Holly took pictures from the air to show her family and friends. She said she found it very interesting to see the way in which the airfields appear from above, as well as how beautiful it was — especially the Allen Valley. Prize winner Paul now hopes to arrange a flight for himself in the near future and said a special thank you to the museum for making such a wonderful day possible.
