A?PENALTY for a high tackle in the ninth minute of added time gave Blackheath victory. As soon as Blackheath centre Scott Windsor kicked the three points the referee blew for full time.

In the dramatic finale the Londoners were frantically keeping the play open in the hope of a last minute score while the All Blacks were trying to keep it tight.

Blackheath were on the attack and trying to spin it wide when they were awarded a penalty for the high tackle. It was about 35 yards out and straight onto the posts and centre Sam Windsor put over the goal.

The Cornishmen were understandably gutted to have had what would have been a deserved victory and valuable points snatched from them at the very last minute.

To come away with a bonus point for four tries was not much consolation.

The All Blacks were the better side and had the lions share of possession and territory, but failed to convert key chances. They put Blackheath under pressure from the start and were seven points up at the end of the first quarter.

Attacking the home line in the corner with rucks and mauls, Blackheath collapsed a maul and from the scrum the All Blacks drove and recycled and scrum half Lewis Webb went in neatly under the posts for 18 year old Robert Avery-Wright, on his debut in National League rugby, to add the conversion.

The teenager from Ivybridge Community College didn't put a foot wrong with the boot all afternoon, kicking in total four conversions and a penalty - and his distribution was not bad either.

By the half hour, Blackheath had levelled when prop Harry Allen crossed after a series of rucks, mauls and drives for Windsor to add the extras.

The match continued tight and close with Windsor landing a penalty for not releasing in the 36th minute.

The referee added ten minutes at the end of the first half. Five scrums were re-set and then the ball was spun out to the Blackheath backs and scrum half Luke Baldwin found a gap and went over wide-out.

There was no conversion and the Londoners led 15-7 at the interval.

The second half saw the All Blacks come out again with all guns blazing and put their hosts under immense pressure. This paid off when the visitors mounted a superb running move involving any number of hands before number eight Mike Rawlings crossed with Avery-Wright converting. One point in it.

The All Blacks maintained their attacking strategy but suffered a blow when the ball popped out and home wing James Stephenson grabbed it and ran 75 yards to touch down against the run of play.

Blackheath were back in the lead. Back came the All Blacks with further pressure on the home line and when Blackheath didn't release Avery-Wright slotted the penalty.

Now it was Blackheath's turn to pile on the pressure and scrum half Baldwin went over for his second try with Windsor kicking the extras.

Dominance swung from one team to the other, the All Blacks were again pounding the home line and when Blackheath pulled down a ruck the visitors were awarded a penalty try which the ever accurate Avery-Wright converted.

In the 67th minute Blackheath were laying siege to their opponents' line but rock-solid defence kept them out. So the ball was sent back to Windsor who dropped a goal from 30 metres. 30-24.

Back came the All Blacks right to the Blackheath line. After a series of rucks and mauls, replacement tight-head Tim Mathias touched down. With Avery-Wright's conversion the All Blacks were ahead by a point.

They now absorbed nearly 18 minutes of home pressure before they were finally sunk by that final penalty.
