OLYMPIC athlete and the GB team captain for water polo, Craig Figes, visited Sir James Smith’s Community School in Camelford recently, to work with Key Stage 3 students.
Craig, whose international highlights include a bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and captaining the GB team at the 2012 London Olympics, now coaches young players and continues to play professional sport.
He visited Sir Jim’s in his role as a Sky Sports ‘Living for Sport’ mentor.
Subject leader for PE at the school, Matt Dyson, explained that Craig shared his sporting experiences with the students and enjoyed some teamwork games with them as well.
Mr Dyson said: “Craig was superb and a real benefit to all our students. The Olympic visitor had previously stressed how sport had had ‘an amazing impact’ on his life and added that he felt the ‘Living for Sport’ project could inspire ‘all young pupils to explore their dreams and talents.”
Among those students he worked with while at the school were Zack McCall, Tye Gettings, Oliver Bond, Lee Collier, Sophie Cousens, Amme Solomon, Tyler Warden, Scott Clarke and Aiden Davey.
