PEOPLE in Holsworthy still have until October to use the old round £1 coin in Torridge District Council’s car parks.
The council’s pay and display machines in its car parks, including the Manor and Well Park, were upgraded in March ahead of the launch of the new £1, so these are also being accepted.
Sean Kearny, parking services manager for Torridge District Council, said of the upgrade: “This was a relatively simple operation performed by the company that provide the machines and the council did not have to purchase new machines. The cost was in the region of £3,000 and the machines will continue to accept the old coins up until October when these are due to be withdrawn from circulation.”
HM Treasury says it is important that all round £1 coins are returned before October 15 when they lose their legal tender status. People will still be able to return old coins to their bank after this time.
