THE Old Bank in Camelford, the former NatWest bank and now a volunteer led community centre, proudly held its first Blooming Great Tea Party in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Fund, on Friday, June 23.

The team behind the event are sadly too aware of friends and family affected by cancer, and the Marie Curies nurses provide an invaluable service to them.

Eight different homemade cakes met the appetites of local people, who popped in for a slice of cake and a cup of tea or cafetiere of coffee between 3pm and 5pm. They also generously supported the raffle with many prizes on offer, and a Guess Where Billy the Bear Went on Holiday game.

The Old Bank was delighted to have raised £60 and have extended thanks to everyone who supported the afternoon, to Jenny Aherne for organising it, and Ruth Henderson and Patience Rudd for helping out.

Every Friday afternoon from 3pm, the Old Bank runs a You and Me Café, to which everyone is welcome. A slice of cake and hot drink is £1 each, and there will always be a friendly welcome. On some Fridays there is free IT advice from Hugh Beswetherick.

Do come and check out what the Old Bank has to offer. There are regular clubs and activities, as well as one-off specials, such as July 21’s evening of improvised comedy with the local hit group, Sweet ‘n’ Sour, and Sunday 11’s talk by Mark Gibbons on Monarchy and Revolution in the Bee Hive.
