FOR the past 20 years, to raise money for charity, Sheila and Tony Greenaway have put on an amazing display of Christmas lights in the front garden of their home in Derriton Road, Pyworthy, writes Christine Williams.

Each year there is a different design and over the years they have added to their collection of lights. Last Saturday, December 3, at around 6.30pm, a crowd of villagers assembled to watch this year’s switch-on, which was prefaced by a proclamation by Holsworthy town crier, Roger Dunstan.

Finally Mrs Susanne Furse, the welfare officer of the South West branch of the Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity, to which the proceeds were to be donated, had the honour of turning on the lights.

After a time to view the lights more closely everyone retreated to the warmth of the village hall where refreshments were served, there was entertainment by pianist Ben Mckenzie, singer Lucy Burnard and by children from local primary schools, who received presents from Father Christmas.
