THE Lions and Rotary Clubs in Launceston have each given a helping hand to a young musician from the town. Josie Whale, 15, a student at St Joseph's School, has been offered a place to study at Wells Cathedral School. — but she needs a professional French horn and they can cost between £6,000 and £11,000 new or £4,500 to £5,000 second hand. Josie has been seeking donations and sponsorship to help — one woman in Bude donated £20 and the Battisborough Trust in Plymouth awarded her £100. Added to the French horn cost, Josie had to find £500 fees for the National Youth Brass Band' summer course and a music diploma examination of £225 as well as the travelling costs involved.
