FOLLOWING a long and hard campaign by local people, not too long ago, Bude Sea Pool was saved from closure. Once again, however it is under threat.

Last time it was the district council looking to close it; this time it is Cornwall Council putting the pool at risk.

Nigel Pearce (Nigel Pearce pictured above left with Nathan Bale) Bude South's Cornwall Councillor, said: "The Conservative lead administration is currently planning on withdrawing funding from our historic sea pool next year. There has been no public consultation and we feel that local people should get to have their say."

Nathan Bale, Bude North and Stratton's Cornwall Councillor, commented: "The people of Bude and Stratton fought hard to keep the pool open last time when it was under treat and I'm sure they will do so this time. The council say they plan on handing the pool over to a local trust or the town council, but no firm plans are in place.

"It is not right to put the pool at risk by stopping funding before any real conversation has happened regarding its future."

Local MP Dan Rogerson added: "The people of Camelford fought to keep their leisure centre open and have been given time to try and come up with a solution. I am confident that Bude and Stratton will also fight to defend their sea pool as they have before. They should be allowed the same chance to set up a working group to secure its future."

Nathan has started a facebook page, 'Save Bude Sea Pool,' to raise awareness of the issue and if anyone would like to contact him his number is 07811 840769.
