THE other day I sat outside Crooklets Cafe having a coffee and watching the surfers. Children were running around laughing, enjoying themselves, free to run around on their own (even toddlers), watched by mum's close eye but not really being in any danger.

Others played football and cricket, that's all they needed, just a piece of grassland where they could run free and happily play. But no, this piece of land is going to be turned into a galleon play park in close proximity to and blocking the view of the hut tenants.

Children will have to be watched very closely and not have so much freedom, and parents will be anxious because of safety hazards. I really cannot imagine what the promenade is going to look like with paths of black and green tarmac and blue rubber matting. It would be better if it blended in with the surroundings.

Pity children are not allowed to enjoy the simple things in life.
